Compilation Cd's.

Compilation Cd’s. There is a line from Hi-Fidelity, that film with John Cusac in it. “The Making of a compliation tape is a very subtle art, many dos and don’ts. Firstly your using someone else’s poetry to express yourself, this is a very delecate thing”.

It goes on, but I think he’s right! I tried to make a mix CD (in the modern century now! Tapes are totally defuncted!) It was really hard! I started by just waking a load of stuff on that I thought was cool… but than I thought to myself – is this the kind of music that she would like. I think it’s great sure, but her? So I pulled a load of and started putting some stuff from my sisters collection on… but then I realised that I didn’t like alot of that music! So I had to find stuff that I liked , that I thought that she would like, and then I had to get it to all flow together, sound good and not make me come across as an idiot! I tell you, it was a tricky tricky business. I hope it goes down well. Either way, I think it’ll be a while before I try and make one of those again, I found the whole experience quite stressful!!

The rise and fall of the Internet Cafe

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I needed to use the internet today, I popped into a place and they wanted to charge me £5 for an hour! Five pounds I said! It just seemed a little excessive… so I went and pulled out my laptop and went and found a cafe with an internet Wi-Fi hotspot inside the cafe itself. It took maybe 10 - 15minutes of wondering and asking to find one, but now, at this very moment as I type I am now sitting comfortably inside, with a VERY large mug of hot chocolate that cost me less than half of an hour in the other joint.

I think it really has got to the point where I think I’m starting to feel a little like a mug when I pay for internet access.  There is so much availability of free hotspots that it seems silly to actually hand over money when instead you can spend it on food or a nice hot mug of the warm and sugary smoothness of hot chocolate with sprinkles on top!

What I wonder is are we looking at the death of an industry that only really came into existence maybe five six years ago? Internet cafes became very popular very quickly, but perhaps just as quickly they will disappear as more and more people get home computers and laptops… only time will tell.
