The Good, The Bad And The Bacon Sarnie.

The Good, The Bad And The Bacon Sarnie.

Have you ever noticed how most of the nice things in life are the same ones that are bad for you? Not everything is like that, of course, but it does seem that an awful lot of the more pleasurable things have a detrimental effect on our health…

The easiest example to begin with is food. The tastiest items will normally do you the most harm; you will not see many aerobics instructors tucking-in to a full English breakfast. And just about everyone knows how boring the food is when you are on a low fat diet. Fresh cream cakes, bacon sandwiches and chips are all really yummy but they will not do us a lot of good.

And then there are all of the pleasant vices that we have –

· Shopping for pleasure/relief from stress can often result in financial worries and… stress.

· Drinking causes hangovers, liver damage and can also be highly addictive.

· Smoking is so obviously bad for you, but just about any smoker will tell you how enjoyable it is.

· Gambling is okay if it is casual but it causes all kinds of problems for some people…

And the list goes on. Perhaps you think I am being a bit on the negative side? Well, maybe I am, but the point I’m trying to make is that even if ‘retail therapy’ works for some people there are still a lot of others who end up with massive debts. A fried breakfast will not kill you but, if you have them on a regular basis, then your cholesterol levels will go through the roof.

I suppose it is a case of ‘all things in moderation’. If we have a bit of self-discipline then there really shouldn’t be a problem. But it still seems strange (and unfair) that a plain and boring salad won’t cause angina…

Although, my main concern is that they do not make some new discovery about the hidden dangers of sex…
