Something Messy This Way Comes…

Something Messy This Way Comes...

When it is cold outside and the kids are stuck indoors, they can soon end up becoming bored. Instead of just letting them sit around and veg-out in front of cartoons or video games give them something interesting to do!

But be warned, what I am about to suggest could be messy; very messy! Take precautions, lay down plenty of newspaper, sheet-over furniture and lock up their grandparents. How about getting the children to do… (Drum roll) papier mache?

The long and the short of it is that kids simply adore anything that is messy. If you do suggest papier mache then they will love you for it straight away! However, are you going to set them a project to do on their own or do you want to be involved? A lot of this will depend on the age of your children and how much of an attention span they have. But make a decision about this before you broach the subject!

If you want some ideas for things they can make then have a look online. There are some excellent websites about nothing else and they will also give you the best possible recipe for making up your goo. You can choose from all kinds of different projects such as; masks, castles, volcanoes, figures and buildings. If you are going to make something that’s tall then a wire coat hanger can be a great way of adding a bit of internal support. And masks are an absolute doddle if you mould them around a balloon!

Whatever project you decide on, your kids will have great fun. Papier mache is a wonderful way for children to use their creative skills and it has been enormously popular for generations.

And that just goes to show; the aftermath can’t be that bad or it would all have been outlawed by now. Pauline’s surprise birthday bash: I think I know what we should sort out. We should plan some time at one of her favourite ski hotels as a surprise.
